A Conversation with Robert Williams

Conscious Life Journal: What is PSYCH-K and how does it work?

Rob Williams: I’m laughing because it’s an impossible question to answer. How does quantum physics work? We have no idea how it works, but we are able to look at outcomes, and there is an undeniable empirical outcome and we can measure that. Habits and phobias that have limited people for 20-
30 years of their lives cease to exist through this process.
It is a spiritual process with psychological benefits, not a psychological process to improve your spirituality. It all starts with an assumption that we are all spiritual beings having a human experience. That way you understand that your true essence is immortal. Your Spirit, your consciousness, doesn’t die. There is nothing more than energy. From that place we engage the higher self—the spiritual part of people—in a permission-based protocol.

What we have discovered is this: We know the left and right hemispheres of the brain provide different functions for us. The conscious mind is more like the left hemisphere, more linear, rational. The right brain is more feeling based and more “big picture.” The right brain puts things together, the left takes things apart. The parts and the whole and their dichotomous presentation in left and right brain research show us that’s how we process the world—we can see parts and we can see a whole. In a perfect world, information gets transferred between the two hemispheres to coordinate localized functions. It turns out, however, that hemispheres don’t automatically work together and science has found that our minds work much better when both of these aspects are working at the same time. We call this the “Whole Brain State.” When the brain is in this whole state or balance, we can add new ideas to our “software baseline” that support our goals. In this state, we are not over identified with one hemisphere over the other and thus trying to shove in a belief that is contrary to our current program.

In an attempt to simplify PSYCH-K we can say that it
is a method administered by a trained facilitator that helps
to create a “Whole Brain State,” allowing our subconscious
to receive new data that’s in our best interests, because our super-conscious must give permission first. By balancing the brain hemispheres, we can tap into higher states of our true selves and integrate desired changes into our lives. We can update the outdated programming that no longer serves us. We focus on the end beliefs that are associated with high functioning optimism. You internalize these beliefs through the PSYCH-K process and from that moment on, those beliefs are part of you—they shape your perceptions and consequently your behaviors and your bio chemistry.

Modern science, neuroscience in particular, has finally reached the place where they have been able to say a lot
more about the function of the subconscious mind. It turns
out that it’s not the brilliant part of you; it’s more like a very sophisticated hard drive that stores a lot of information. Its primary job is to keep you safe, so it runs programs that it thinks keeps you safe. Most of our programs are acquired very early on, up until about age 5, 6, or 7. Those programs become your baseline for defining what the world is, your place in it, and how you need to operate in it. Our perceptions, attitudes, and beliefs are all stored in that part of the consciousness, which is running the show.

CLJ: Can you tell us more about the PSYCH-K process?

BW: In PSYCH-K we use concrete goal statements. A general affirmation or statement gets you just that—a general response. And then you can’t understand why you didn’t get what you want. You did what you were supposed to: you read about using affirmations to change your life in a book and it’s supposed
to work for everybody, but it doesn’t. That’s because we
didn’t understand very much about the subconscious and the conscious mind and their relative functions in our consciousness. We know almost nothing about the superconscious mind, which is the spirit part. And that’s key to me.

In PSYCH-K everything you want to change has to go through the gatekeeper—the super conscious mind. For every change you want to make, once you make the statement in
the particular format that is user-friendly for the subconscious mind, then the very first thing we do is check with the super conscious mind through muscle testing. You can create a binary Yes or No—strong or weak response. We ask, is this safe and appropriate to do? With this permission-based protocol, you never end up getting something that is not good for you.

Although PSYCH-K is a method with a blend of procedures that facilitators follow, it’s really the philosophy behind it—the intentions, the understanding, and meanings you give to those words—that actually create the effect. It’s important to me to distinguish it from other modalities that do not have permission protocols. They just go after whatever the symptom is and try to eradicate it.

CLJ: Oftentimes there are other statements that need to be balanced first. So it’s a matter of working with things and connecting to all levels of what it is that we truly desire. Can you speak to that?

BW: Yes, there is only really one problem in the world and it can be solved if everybody could understand that we are spiritual beings—first and foremost—having a human experience. This society is so geared toward THINGS. People think of scarcity
in terms of, “I have to get stuff that will make me important in
the eyes of other people.” It is a substitution for self-esteem or what I call your higher self or divine self. If you have peace of mind, then we would have peace in the world. Because no one is going to kill someone else when they are feeling at peace. Operate from that divine place where you know you are part of everything and that we are an expression of all of that IS. We are not separate from nature, we are a part of it.

CLJ: How did PSYCH-K come about?

BW: I was a convenient vessel. The information came through me and used my intellect to organize it so I could share it with other people on this planet. PSYCH-K came to me in December of 1988. I was very frustrated with a flyer I was trying to put together and I went outside and said really loudly with my fists clenched, “Okay, God! If you don’t want me to do this, what do you want me to do?” I was ranting, but it was question enough. At that moment, the first set of downloads came in. I could
see the words in English in my head, like on a teleprompter. I ran back into the house and transcribed what I had received. I thought, “Okay, this means something! I don’t know what this is, but I’m going to study it and mess around with it until I can figure it out.”

I had a psychotherapy practice at the time and was hesitant to introduce it into my private practice until it was thoroughly tested. With the help of some friends, I tested it out and it was thoroughly transformational for each of us.

The information I was given contained one of the key missing parts for everything else I had ever studied: permission protocols. It is necessary to first interact with your higher self and get permission to do what you are about to do—otherwise your vision of what is good and what’s not good is very limited. Well—intentioned, but spiritually misguided.

Then I introduced it into my private practice and saw miracles. People with so-called terminal diseases didn’t have them after we did it. I named the method PSYCH-K and got over my fear and just did it. I did it in private practice until
that got too big then I taught it to others, then started to do workshops, and then I became overwhelmed with workshops and started to teach teachers to teach workshops. Now there are certified instructors teaching this work all over the world in 8 or 9 different languages.

That’s the joy of it—I love it. People find PSYCH-K when they are burned out, frustrated, feel stymied, and feel there is nowhere else to go. The main demographics are between the ages of 40-60. Most people in their 20s and 30s haven’t tried enough stuff to come into this field of consciousness.

CLJ: We had a discussion in my class about how people found PSYCH-K and we all agreed we did not find PSYCH-K, PSYCH-K found us.

BW: Exactly. We hear that often. I worked with Dr. Bruce Lipton for 14 years doing a 4-day workshop around the world. We would always take the time to ask people why they came here. In the beginning
they said that they read Bruce’s book The Biology of Belief or heard a radio interview, a friend told me, etc. It’s morphed into, “I don’t know exactly. I didn’t find it. It found me.” People found out through synchronicity. It’s almost as if once you are ready, this thought form (what I call it) will find you and present itself for your consideration.

CLJ: What is one thing above all that you would like our conscious community to know?

BW: I would say two things. If you doubt anything, doubt your limitations. PSYCH-K isn’t powerful, YOU are powerful. You have the key to unlock your power and your light. If you don’t challenge your perceived limitations, then you will never step out of the box.

Secondly, in my book, PSYCH-K
… The Missing Piece/Peace In Your
Life, I dedicated the following wish to my readers: “May you recognize your Divinity, discover your greatness, and become
the peace that you seek.” You have to recognize the interconnectedness of all things. And that is indigenous wisdom that has not aged through time. The payoff
to you is you become the peace that
you seek. Everyone is looking for some modicum of peace in their life and if you recognize your divine nature first, out of that recognition you will find what you are here to do. What’s your life purpose? To be the best you can be and to find your gift and give it away to people. That is peace. And if you can make a living doing it, all the better. Find what your gift is and give it to the world.
